The next day, Miriam was playing with her dolls when the telephone rang. A minute later, Miriam's mom called out, "Miriam! Grandma is on the phone. She wants to talk to you."
Miriam ran to the telephone. "Hello, Grandma!" she said in a cheerful tone.
"Hello, Miriam! Its almost Christmas time, and I am calling to find out what you would like for Christmas!" Miriam's grandma answered.
"What do you mean?" asked Miriam.
"Well, is there any new toy you have been hoping for? Or any new clothes you need?" her grandma continued.
"For me? For Christmas?" Miriam was confused. But she didn't say anything about her confusion. She just said, "No, I can't think of anything."
"Well, then I will have to get creative and come up with something I hope you like," Grandma replied.
"OK, Grandma," Miriam responded. See you soon. Miriam hung up the telephone, but she was still confused.
